The origin of coffee may have come from Africa, but throughout the years, other countries have found ways to make them better.  One country that is known for classy, excellent coffee is Columbia.

Columbian coffee first started in the early 1800’s.  It was then exported to Europe and the United States.  Just between the two countries, more than 11 million bags per year has already been traded.  Starbucks company is the largest client for Columbian coffee.

As the years went by, Starbucks decided to buy the coffee plantations instead of buying them from their suppliers.  Doing so cut cost and yield a higher profit margin for each cup of coffee sold.

Columbian coffee beans comes from the Coffea Arabic Tree.  These are grown in the mountains under rubber and banana trees as those trees provide shades, but also the right amount of sunlight.  Many of the coffee plantations is in the central and eastern region of the country.

Coffee grown in Columbia usually takes 4 to 5 years to grow.  Once they are ready to be harvest, the farmers pick them by hand.  After that, they are soaked in cold water for about 24 hours which is almost the same techniques in fermenting grapes.

Once the beans are ready to go through the final process, it is again hand picked by the farmers to meet their standards to ensure quality.  They are then laid to dry in the sun to lower its acidity level, then packed and delivered to the customer.

Columbian coffee are so popular that they are found in every supermarket throughout the world.  They come as caffeinated or decaffeinated with many different flavors.  Some people mix columbian coffee with other brand of coffee to experiments with the taste.  What ever you choose to do, Columbian coffee is one type of coffee that will not let you down.
